How much?
- $5,000 per parent/child pair; additional people in the same hotel room are $2,000pp.
- Field trips require a 20 person minimum or money in full will be returned.
- Price includes $100 non-refundable fee for trip insurance per person
- Trip insurance covers last minute emergency reasons you cannot go on the trip (such as illness with a doctor’s note) and will reimburse you your full payment minus the $100 per person in those situations. It does not cover any other out of pocket expenses related to the trip.
Who?
- Trips are open to Alexander 5th graders and their parents/chaperones. Younger or older siblings are not allowed. Trip is capped to first 56 participants.
- All children must go with a chaperone - but you can team up with another parent to chaperone your kid. Maximum 3 kids to one parent ratio since there must be an adult in every hotel room.
Itinerary
Day 1 - May 6 - Tuesday
- 8:29 am > 11am: Flight. MIA>Washington Reagan Airport
- 11:30: Transport to Smithsonian Museum of Natural History
- 12:30: Smithsonian Museum of Natural History - no advanced registration required
- Lunch at atrium cafe (price not included)
- Independent exploration time
- 3:00: National Museum of African American History and Culture
- 5:00: Transport to Ford’s Theatre.
- 5:30: Dinner (price not included) - Bus will drop us all off at Ford’s Theatre and from there families will grab a quick bite nearby. Options in a less than 10 minute walk: Nando peri peri, E street pizza, Le pain quotidian, Pret a manger, Potbelly, Qdoba Mexican grill, Shake shack, Au bon pain, Chic-fil-A, Five Guys.
- 6:30: Tour Museum of Ford’s Theatre then Sister Act at 7:30.
- 9:45: Transport back to hotel. Check in at The Dupont Circle .
Day 2 - May 7 - Wednesday:
- Breakfast on own - room service or Doyle and Co. in hotel lobby.
- 9:00: Transport to Arlington National Cemetery
- 9:30-11: Arlington National Cemetery tours
- 11: Transport to Supreme Court
- 11:30: Lunch at Supreme Court cafe. Self guided walk through. Courtroom lecture 25 minutes long on the half hour.
- 2:00: Transport to Holocaust Museum
- 2:30: Holocaust Museum
- 4:30: Transport to Hotel
- 4:30: Free time / dinner on own (price not included)
- 7:00-10: Evening tour of monuments - Iwo Jima, FDR, Lincoln, Vietnam Veterans, Korean War, and Martin Luther King Jr.
Day 3 - May 8 - Thursday:
- Breakfast at hotel - room service or Doyle and Co.
- 10:30: Transport to Capitol Hill
- 11:20/11:40: Capitol Hill: Two groups for tours.
- Tour: (Film, Capitol Rotunda, Crypt, National Statuary)
- 1:00: Transport to Mt. Vernon Lunch on bus
- 1:30: Mt. Vernon: 2 hr visit including 20 minute tour of the mansion,
- 3:30: Transport to hotel in Williamsburg (3 hours)
- 6:30: Check into hotel at Williamsburg Lodge
- 7:00: Free time / pizza dinner on property
- 9:00: To hang a pirate show
Day 4 - May 9 - Friday:
- 8-9: Breakfast at hotel in banquet room
- 9-12pm: 3 hr Guided tour of Colonial Williamsburg
- 12:30-2pm: Lunch at Shield’s Tavern
- 2pm - 6pm: Free exploration time to continue tour of Colonial Williamsburg
- Dinner on own.
Day 5 - May 10- Saturday
- Private Breakfast at hotel (included)
- 9:45: Transport to Jamestown Settlement
- 10: Jamestown Settlement self exploration
- 12: Lunch - Jamestown Cafe
- 1:00: Transport to Yorktown
- 1:30: Yorktown self exploration
- 3:30: Transport to Norfolk airport
- 6:39pm: American Airlines flight Norfolk<MIA, 7:19pm<9:50pm
